I, (state your name)/, acknowledge this oath and the badge of my profession/ as symbols of the public trust in my ability and commitment/ to provide for the public safety as a professional correctional officer./ I agree to maintain the highest ethical standards/ and serve the Vermont Department of Corrections to the best of my ability./ I freely accept this responsibility/ and swear to uphold the humanitarian and legal principles/ of the corrections profession throughout my career.
Keynote Speaker
Dr. Delores Burroughs-Biron
Dr. Burroughs-Biron affectionately known to us as Dr. Dee began her tenure with the Vermont Department of Corrections on August 13, 2007 as the Health Services Director. Dr. Dee is a MD and MSN with over 20 years experience in the medical field including 5 years with the Massachusetts DOC.
Dr. Dee led the department’s health services through challenging events always looking to improve systems. She represented the department at the legislative level on many occasions providing lawmakers and advocacy groups with an insight to the department’s commitment to inmate health care.
Always a cheerful person, Dr. Dee never hesitated to answer questions posed by department staff from the Correctional Officer in a facility to the Commissioner. She consistently supported her own staff on many of the tasks she set for them.
Dr. Dee recently stepped down from her position with the Vermont DOC to return to private practice. We will miss her and wish her well in all her future endeavors and are honored to have her speak at this graduation today.
